Welcome
President’s Message
AFP has always been active in government relations, but our increased public policy work over the past couple of months isn’t an isolated trend—it’s going to become a key part of our daily operations. The political and economic climates have changed dramatically. With a slow economy and terms like sequester and austerity now part of our daily vocabulary, the debate about the charitable deduction and other tax incentives is just getting started. Proposals to limit the deduction are just the tip of the iceberg.
We’re going to have to get involved more and more in government relations, public policy and the media. We can’t be idle bystanders in these conversations—our voice needs to be heard. AFP International Headquarters will be the primary conveyer and coordinator, but our chapter needs to help as well. Local messages are powerful and carry more weight with elected officials.
We will continue to communicate messages and calls to actions, and we encourage each of you to follow up with your own communications as we work together. We welcome your participation at any level and always value your suggestions!
Yours in philanthropy,
Karen Good, CFRM
