Just 43 percent of charities raised more money in 2009 than in 2008, making it the worst year for charitable fundraising in a decade. In a healthy year, that number would total 60 percent. As the sour economy continues to take its toll on local nonprofits, help is on the way. On Wednesday, May 5, the Association of Fundraising Professionals California Capital Chapter teams with financial experts from Merrill Lynch to offer much-needed financial training in a half-day fiduciary conference titled “Triple Strengthen Your Organization: Recession-Centered Training for Board, CEO, & Staff Teams.”
“In many nonprofits, you’ll find a lone fundraising department bearing the brunt of the work,” says Tim Rodriguera, President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals California Capital Chapter. “Yet we know that the healthiest organizations form strong teams across all levels of their agency, bringing board, CEO, and fundraising staff together. This workshop is designed to build those healthy teams and get nonprofits safely through this economic crisis.”
Workshops will offer training on current trends in philanthropy, ideas for rebalancing investments, identifying the right skill set for board members, donor advised funds, and more.
“We want to bring in our financial experts to help strengthen local nonprofits,” says David Cloninger, spokesperson for Merrill Lynch. “When our nonprofits are healthiest, our community thrives.”
Nonprofits are encouraged to attend in teams that include members of board, fundraising staff, and executive directors.
Fees: $50 for AFP members/ $60 non-members
Group discounts for 2 or more people attending from the same organization: first registrant - regular price, additional registrations - $25 discount per person. |
